Location

Opened on 29 September 2008, Neeleshwar Hermitage in North Kerala is the new and exciting "retreat" style hotel that offers the tranquility and rejuvenating simplicity of a retreat, yet the comfort and modern elegance of a luxury hotel.  Situated 2 hours drive from Mangalore airport, it is set amongst 12 acres of palm grove and fronted by a long stretch of pristine, unspoilt, undiscovered beach with clean, swimmable sea, it is the ultimate place to Escape!

The entire resort has been built according to the traditional architectural principals of Kerala Vastu, which dictates that a building should be constructed so to conform to the subtle laws of nature.  Hence the whole site faces east and the rising sun while buildings are spaced out and positioned in correct relation to each other to bring about a profoundly peaceful atmosphere.

Rooms

 There are 16 traditional thatched cottages in total, divided between:-

• 8 Deluxe one-bedroom cottages (sea view)
• 4 Deluxe one-bedroom cottages (garden view)

Each cottage is light and airy with unusually generous proportions that create a sense of space, peace and tranquility.   Each cottage has its own private courtyard garden, spacious verandah and bathrooms with partial outdoor showers.  The interiors are modern, with beautiful teak floors, deep mattresses and fine linens, with furnishing and colour schemes designed to be calming and welcoming.  The real delight is being able to chose between overhead fans or air-conditioning.  For those that need to plug into the outside world, there is internet connection in the rooms and TVs and DVDs can be provided on request (we recommend trying to go without these!).

Food

At the Hermitage, they believe that "Good food makes a good life, and the quality of what we eat affects body, mind and spirit", so great attention is paid to serving nourishing, tasty and authentic food.  There are two restaurants:-

Anupurna Restaurant - serves predominantly vegetarian food with a variety of influences - local cuisine, classic Indian, Middle-Eastern and European.  Local dishes not seen in international hotels are one of their specialities.  For those on an ayurveda programme, authentic ayurvedic meals can be prepared and served as prescribed by the Ayurvedic Doctor.

Seafood Restaurant - open for dinner.  Each morning you will see the local fisherman with their long boats bringing back the day's catch for the beachside restaurant.  Here you can be lulled by the sound of the waves or spend the evening under the brilliant canopy of stars.

Fitness & Daily Activities

With an Olympic sized infinity pool to do your lengths in, miles of beach to walk or run on, daily morning yoga classes and bicycles at your disposal to explore the area, you won't get fidgeting with the serenity.

• They provide i-pod docks in your room so you can either listen to your own music or they will provide you with a i-pod to use with a good mix of western, Indian and classical music.

• Priya Ayurvedic Spa is a small (5 treatment rooms) but traditionally designed ayurvedic spa offering a number of authentic ayurvedic treatments under the guidance of their resident Ayurvedic Doctor.  The Ayurveda and other spa treatments (massage and facials) are aimed at relaxation and rejuvenation rather than intense Panchakarma or complex medical issues.

Signature Treatment

Sradha (joint soother).  This begins with an ayurvedic oil massage of the neck and shoulders to relieve muscular tightness commonly built up by stress, bad posture and sitting incorrectly. Then warm herbal bundles wrapped in cotton are dipped in medicated oils and applied to the stressed areas, particularly the joints. This realigns the body and acts to combat stiffness, pain and inflammation.
